Spring means it’s Graduation Portrait time.

Spring means the end of the school year is approaching, and that means it’s Graduation Portrait time.

Personalized Graduation Portrait sessions.

Are you graduating from The University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College or High School this spring?

If you are, you’ll know that  you’ve invested years of study to reach this goal. As a reward for your hard work, I’m offering you a special rate of $24.95 for your Graduation Portrait sitting fee.

That’s a $15.00 saving over our regular sitting fee.

Our print packages start at $59.95 and retouching is included on all images in your print order.

A personalized Graduation Portrait session with LJ Photography is a great way to preserve one of the high points of your life.

My sessions are more flexible that traditional Grad Portrait sittings.

You won’t be one of 32 Graduates booked for a session that day, and you won’t be rushed through your session.

I’ll take the time to capture the traditional cap-and-gown photographs,

but after that I’ll also photograph you in formal or casual attire during the same sitting (at no extra charge).

Please book by May 31th 2011 to qualify for my special rate.

Choosing a Wedding Photographer | Ottawa Photographer

Choosing a Wedding Photographer.

Ottawa Wedding Photographer

Your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your life, and it’s one that you’ll want to remember forever.

You’ll need to make a lot of decisions, lots of choices about how to make your wedding day uniquely yours. One of the most important decisions a Bride and Groom will face is who you will trust as your Wedding Photographer.

Who you choose to as your Wedding Photographer will depend on a number of things. Some of these will include:

  • The style of Photography you like
  • The Photographers personality
  • Who will your Photographer actually be?
  • Does the Wedding Photographer work with a contract?
  • The Photographers appearance
  • The cost vs the value provided

What to look for in an Ottawa Wedding Photographer.

The style of photography you’re looking for i.e. Traditional or Documentary style Wedding Photography. Do you like the Photographers style? Are they flexible enough to capture your Wedding Day the way you want it remembered?

The personality of your Photographer also need to be considered. Do you like them? Are they excited at the prospect of Photographing your Wedding ?

Who will your Wedding Photographer actually be? Larger studios may have a stable of Photographers. Do the sample albums you’re being shown contain the work of the Photographer you’ll be getting on your Wedding Day, or is it a “Greatest Hits” package containing the work of several of the studio’s staff. Do you get a chance to meet the Photographer that will be at your Wedding before you sign a contract?

Speaking of contracts, does the Photographer work with a contract? The contracts is an important part of Wedding planning. It gives you the peace of mind of knowing exactly what you can expect to receive from your Photographer, and is your guarantee that the date is booked and the Photographer is reserved for your wedding.

The Photographers appearance should also be taken into account. Are they neatly dressed when you meet them? Do the look professional? Would you want this person meeting your wedding guests?

Pricing and your Wedding Photographer.

Obviously, price plays an important part of the decision. Does the Photographer you’re considering fit into your budget? If they don’t, are they worth the price difference? One of the worst mistakes you can make is choosing a Wedding Photographer based on price alone. Wedding Photographers set their prices based on their skill and experience. There’s a simple reason some Photographers cost more. They’re worth it.

The Internet is a wonderful place to do research on Wedding Photographers. Unfortunately if you make your decision based exclusively on a Photographers website, or the price they quote, you may be disappointed on with the photos from your wedding day. Getting a “great price” from a Wedding Photographer you booked online won’t look like such a deal if you find them difficult to work with.

Questions to ask your Wedding Photographer.

One of the most important steps to take in planning your day is to take the time to meet with your Wedding Photographer. Sit down with them, talk to them. Look at their portfolios and albums. Like I said, the Internet is an incredibly helpful tool. It’s just not a great place to judge the quality of a photographers images. Meeting your prospective Wedding Photographer in person gives you an opportunity to evaluate a number of key items.

(1)  Can they show you samples of their Wedding Photography? How do the images look? how do the albums look and feel? You won’t want to display your wedding pictures in a three ring binder, so make sure you can see the style of album you’ll actually be receiving. Are the samples from more than one wedding?

(2)  Are they professional? Are they on time for your meeting? Are they dressed appropriately?  Do they have an office or studio or are you sitting at their kitchen table? Don’t get me wrong. Lots of people start out working from their home while they get established. The question you need to ask yourself is “Do I want them using MY wedding to build their experience?”

(3) Are they actually running a business? Do they have a business license? A business bank account? Do they work with a contract? A contract is an incredibly important part of the process. With a contract, everyone knows what is promised, and what will be delivered. Are they insured? Ask them if they have spare equipment. We have at least two of EVERY piece of equipment we use while photographing a wedding. It can be the difference between a memorable wedding album and disappointment.

(4)  Do you like them? Are they pleasant? What’s their personality like? It’s a simple fact of human nature that we can’t get along with everyone. The time to find this out is NOT on your Wedding day. Getting married is an intense experience, and it’s one that can generate a great deal of stress. You’ll want Your Wedding Photographer to be someone who can capture the beauty of your wedding day, and make you feel comfortable while doing it.

Family Portrait Session

Marielle and her husband Marc were in my studio recently with their children Annabelle and William for a  Family Portrait Session. Of course, the children were adorable, and I was really pleased with the photos from the session.
